Kia Ora!
Finally got out of Palmy for a weekend!!! Jeb Mike and I escaped out to Tararua Forest Park which is only about 30 min away. Mike drove Sam’s car and after several directional mishaps we finally headed in the right direction haha. The drive was beautiful; we got to drive through the Manawatu Gorge which was sweet as before ending up in sheep country on a dirt road heading to the trailhead. Oh and we have decided that sheep are either incredibly cute lil buggers or incredibly hideous fluffy masses. The reasoning being:
Baby Sheep – not recently sheered = semi-cute
Baby Sheep – recently sheered = adorably cute
Adult Sheep – recently sheered = ok but leaning toward plain ugly
Adult Sheep – not recently sheered =plain ugly
Adult Sheep – not recently sheered with brown wool surrounding butt = 1 incredibly hideous fluffy mass
Black Sheep – white wool = SWEET AS
Anyway now that that’s taken care of we can continue on with the camping side of the weekend. We walked probably 10min down the trail before finding an awesome little campsite next to the creek. We decided to set up camp and explore the creek where we found a rock that was overhangin a spot that was about 7ft deep in the creek. Needless to say I stripped down to my boxers and did a back flip into the water, which was prolly around 45-50 degrees. It was incredibly cold haha. We didn’t care though and we all jumped in a couple times then went and laid out on some rocks that were in the sun. We came back to put on some more clothes and start up a fire. Jeb started the fire with his flint then we cooked sausages and beans, and we got to introduce Mike to good ol fashion salt n pepper haha. His sausage fell off his stick so I picked it up, brushed it off, cooked it some more, and ate it haha cuz he insisted that he wouldn’t. But yea we stuffed ourselves full of anything and everything we could lay our hands on before going out to lay on the rocks, talk and look at the stars for awhile. After that we had a goodnights sleep, I bought a mat since I forgot to bring mine and that helped a lot. The next morning we woke up and packed up cuz the weather looked bad, and walked 10 min back to the car. We drove into the nearest lil town and found a place that was servin up breakfast. I ordered an omelette that was literally half the size of a large plate and it was loaded with ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and cheese. It was good haha. We drove back around noon and all in all it turned out to be a great trip. I’ll post up some pics later but for now I’m goin to play some ball after watchin the games this mornin.
With Love,
Sean
